A COMIC GOES A LONG WAY!

In this blog post…

You will examine the work of American pop artist, Roy Lichtenstein whose favored subject matter was the old-fashioned comic book strip.  You will write 5-7 sentences about the artist’s life, style, inspiration etc. You will then choose 5 of his works, including title and date and for each image and write 3-5 sentences regarding your thoughts of the painting: composition, use of text, style, if you like/dislike it and your reasons why.  Each image should not have the same write-up and should be critical and creative.

You will then write a paragraph of 7-10 sentences about your favourite comic book.  You will explain the following: why you enjoy this comic book, the style, artist, genre, use of text and images.  You will also provide three visual examples of the comic and critically examine each image in 3-5 sentences.

This blog will be presented to the class on Monday!

THE ROLE OF SYMBOLS IN SOCIETY!

Information is registered in several different ways in our society.  Text is one of the most common ways we process and understand information, but symbols play a crucial role as well.  Take for example, the symbols located on the side of the highway.  They provide important information about where to find gas, restrooms, food, accommodations, etc. in a language that speaks to the majority of individuals.

The following link provides several examples of common symbols seen in society:

In this blog post, you will research and find ten symbols.  You will post the symbol and what the symbol means in your blog.  You will then write 7-10 sentences explaining the importance of using a visual message/symbols in society.
